National Honeybee Day at Baseline!

Thank you everyone who turned out at The Basin on Saturday, August 21st to help us celebrate Honeybee Day. Bluegrass Blitz’s high-energy pickin’ and fiddlin’ opened, what turned out to be, a bee-utiful August day. Their lively, ol’ timey strings set the tone as over 125 attendees strolled, crafted, and learned about bees and the many ways we can thoughtfully and sustainably support pollinators.

Cheers to our partners and vendors, too, for creating a honey of a day.

Brighton Bee Club wowed with their live hive and bee facts. Thanks to beekeepers Dan and Bob, visitors witnessed the many life stages of honeybees — up close and personal.

Brianna, from Sustainable Broomfield, taught a new generation of bee lovers simple ways to create welcoming bee habitats in their own backyards. By upcycling plastic bottles, adding some creative flare, and assistance from mother-daughter team Tonee and Tiana Garcia (members of Baseline Community Life), kids created bee houses and baths.

Our pollinator-loving vendors — The Beekeeper’s Den, Sarai’s Moisture Bars, and Soaps by Elleen — provided locally-made, bee-friendly products for residents to purchase.

Those ready for lunch visited The Captain’s Taco and Sushi food truck for Mexican-Japanese fusion dishes.

Acoustic guitar (and comedy) duo Skanson & Hansen and locally-made ice cream from Sweet Cow’s MooMobile helped us chill, as the afternoon warmed up.

Bands weren’t the only entertainment, members of Broomfield Council on the Arts & Humanities engaged event-goers with an art walk, juggling and a gazillion bubbles. One of the vendors daughter, Charlotte, with her bee tutu and dance moves were irresistible. And kids of all ages enjoyed Gail’s face painting.
